While the challenge is limited, given the exceptional quality of this grape in the region is widely recognized, Mayer – who comes from a family of German vignerons with over 400 years of tradition – has reserved a select portion of the upper reaches of his vineyard Bloody Hill, primarily known for its Pinot Noir cultivation, for this extraordinary varietal.
The Shiraz, as it is known in Australia, grows on deep, fertile volcanic soils located between 200 and 470 meters above sea level.
